Mushroom Collection
A unique blend of features from the Burke design lineup, the Mushroom began at Arkana as a utilitarian compliment to the Star collection. Comprising dining sets, stools, and end tables, the Mushroom offered several chair variants, all in a range of finishes and colours.

Series 21 Stool
The Series 21 stool, also known as the Macrima Ministool, was Duncan’s last design for the Burke family companies. Despite its humble appearance, it again reflects his characteristic minimalist approach to designing a functional-yet-artistic piece where every detail is deliberate and purposeful.
The seat is curved to pull the sitter into the optimal position where their feet will naturally rest in the front groove. That groove is then offset by the slight curve to the back, creating a forward-pointing silhouette that is accentuated by the backward flare of the carry handle/back rest.
While the Oribita/Zermatt may have gotten the glory, to this day Duncan considers the Series 21 his personal favourite. And the undeniable charm of its simplicity, as well as the wide range of colours and seat upholstery it carried, speak to its versatility.

Macrima M1 and M2
The designs of the Macrima M1 and M2 models are technically separate designs from the main Mushroom collection, but Maurice himself considered them to be a way of remedying certain flaws he saw with the Mushroom. In particular, the scalloped bases gave more space for people to put their feet. Despite his high hopes for the designs, they and the company would fall victim to the 1973 OPEC crisis, and never entered production beyond these show piece protoypes and brochures.
